What's taking shape in California

Across California, three institutions are taking thoughtful steps to prepare their campuses for the future. From renovating learning spaces to reimagining an entire campus, École Bilingue de Berkeley, Pinewood School and the University of La Verne have selected B&D to help turn their distinct visions into actionable plans.

École Bilingue de Berkeley

Berkeley, California | Project management

École Bilingue de Berkeley, a preschool-through-eighth-grade French-English immersion school founded in 1977, is preparing to renovate its middle school campus on Grayson Street. Plans call for updated classrooms, a new multipurpose room and kitchen, a media lab, a maker space and related site improvements. B&D will provide project management throughout planning, procurement, design, construction and closeout, helping the school create an environment that supports its distinctive bilingual learning experience.

Pinewood School

Los Altos Hills, California | Owner’s representation

Pinewood School is moving forward with a major modernization of its Upper Campus, home to approximately 300 students in grades 7–12. The project will create new and enhanced spaces for STEM learning, student collaboration, science and the performing arts, including a maker space, student hub and approximately 250-seat performing arts center. Following final municipal approval in April 2026, B&D is supporting the project’s initial phase through owner’s representation, including procurement support, budget and schedule management, entitlement coordination, and early design management.

University of La Verne

La Verne, California | Campus master planning

Founded in 1891, the University of La Verne serves approximately 6,000 students across its Southern California campuses and online. The university has selected Practice Architecture and B&D to update its campus master plan for 2026–2040, aligning its physical campus with evolving enrollment, academic and financial priorities. B&D will bring institutional strategy, financial modeling, capital planning, real estate strategy and implementation expertise to help the university make informed decisions about its land, buildings and long-term investments.

While each institution is charting its own course, all three share a commitment to creating campuses that can better serve their students today and adapt to what comes next. B&D is proud to welcome them to our family of clients and support them on the journey ahead.

"The leadership and information from B&D, and the clarity with which they provide it, brings added credibility to the process and ensures that a range of university stakeholders, including senior leadership and our board, are fully informed for – and confident in – their required decision making.”
