Athletic and Recreation Framework Plan Advisory Services

As part of an effort to strengthen recruitment and retention, CUA needed to develop a plan for its athletic and recreation facilities to realign them with the university’s purpose, mission, and values.

The Framework Plan places the University’s recreation and athletic enterprises within the greater institutional strategic context. Initially, B&D conducted several strategic planning sessions with key administrators to identify appropriate programming in support of Catholic’s vision for its varsity athletics and recreation program. B&D conducted an existing conditions analysis, developed program standards and a hypothesis, performed an application of drivers identified, and then pressure tested concepts.

B&D also established facility investment budgets to support the needs of each of the university’s current and proposed varsity teams, sport clubs, intramural leagues, and drop-in recreation fitness facilities.

The plan outlines 10 discrete capital improvement projects, including—in part—a new recreation facility, baseball and softball fields, tennis courts, and a field house and club house. B&D clearly laid out the steps required for implementation along with projected timelines to ensure the university felt empowered to move forward with the ambitious plan.
