Derek Riley is an assistant project manager in B&D’s D.C. office supporting the implementation of the DCPS K-12 modernization program and DDOT’s DC Circulator facilities projects for DC-DGS. In this role, he acts as an owner’s representative providing engineering and construction management services to the client.
Prior to joining B&D, Mr. Riley started in the transportation sector as a Transportation Engineer for the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration in both the Construction and Traffic & Safety sections. Under construction, he served as an Assistant Project Engineer, ensuring that projects were completed according to plan/specs specified by MDOT SHA, including a major $24-million, 3-year project which covered bridge/highway design, maintenance of traffic, concrete/asphalt placement, environmental compliance, and construction administration. As a Traffic Engineer, he focused specifically on providing engineering and construction management of projects in various phases (concept/design, construction, and maintenance) and styles (design-bid-build and design-build).
Recently, Mr. Riley has switched over to the private sector continuing his expertise and growth, specifically in project management. He has worked as a Project Manager for third-party inspections and as a Field Technician with building envelope consulting.
