Facilities Master Plan; Schools Stabilization and Modernization Program Management

Since 2007, B&D has served as the program manager for the District of Columbia’s $4B public school modernization program. The ambitious program’s goal is to fully modernize all 123 elementary, middle, and high school buildings in the district to ensure all buildings meet modern requirements for life safety, accessibility, and environmental sensitivity.

One of the largest programs of its kind, the DCPS Modernization Program is an industry-leading effort to transform long-neglected educational facilities into state-of-the-art 21st Century learning environments. Each project is exceptionally important, not only to student academic success, but to restoring vital centers of community across the city.

Throughout the program’s life-cycle, B&D has been at the center of providing strategic advice to DCPS and the DC Department of General Services on all aspects of program management. In addition to managing the design, construction, and occupancy of each project, B&D developed and is continually updating the DCPS Master Facilities Plan to prioritize needs and respond to evolving citywide priorities.

‘‘B&D’s timely delivery of various work products has allowed the District of Columbia to proceed with the most ambitious capital improvements program ever initiated. School and recreation center modernization budgets annually exceed $500 million, and the projects could not be implemented without B&D leading the team effort to meticulously manage each project.”
