Appalachian State delivers new mixed-use Innovation District

Project Highlights

  • Through a competitive procurement process, the university selected a best-in-class development team to deliver Phase I of the Innovation District and engaged in negotiations for the integrated delivery of energy assets, including a district energy system powered by 100% renewable energy, including wind, solar, and ground-source heating.

  • Construction of the first STEM academic bldg (50,000 SF Conservatory for Biodiversity Education and Research) began summer 2023 and scheduled for opening in 2026.

  • The Conservatory will be one of the first academic research facilities built to the Living Building Challenge sustainability standards.
