Undergraduate And Graduate Student Housing Feasibility Analysis

In 2002 B&D was retained to assist the University Heights Association (UHA) plan for new on-campus stuent apartments in response to enrollment growth projections and a shortfall in existing housing. We completed a detailed market/feasibility study to assess the demand for student housing from the colleges of the UHA and make recommendations about the planned shared student housing complex. Our study evaluated quantitative and qualitative characteristics of demand and projected them over ten years on the basis of enrollment and student preferences. Student focus groups and surveys were studied for their preferences and opinions. We analyzed the on- and off-campus housing markets for their ability to meet the number and variety of demand. As a result of our work, the 429-bed, $20 million University Heights College Suites opened in 2003, serving students from Albany Law School, Albany College of Pharmacy, Sage College of Albany, Albany Medical College, College of St. Rose, Maria College, and University at Albany.
