Student Union Feasibility Study And Consultation Assistance

California State University, San Marcos was interested in having a feasibility study done on its plan to build a new student union. The university wanted the union building constructed in multiple phases in concert with its growing student enrollment. In 2008 B&D was tasked with analyzing the market demand and financial realities to determine if they fit the university’s preliminary estimates. Our approach included interviews and focus groups, an Internet-based survey, a test for sensitivity for specific fee levels, a financial model, and a study of space and amenity demands. Our consultation services also supported the university’s funding efforts. The initial phase of the project was completed in 2013 with the opening of the 89,283 SF, $43.98 million University Student Union. Phase two, which will double the union’s size, will be built when the campus reaches maximum enrollment.
