Student Union Feasibility Analysis and Referendum Advisory Services

Client Opportunity

  • Develop a plan for enhancing the school’s quality-of-life facilities in anticipation of enrollment increase to over 30,000 in next seven years
  • Provide a comprehensive feasibility study for the potential renovation and expansion of the University Centers facilities – the Price Center, and the Student Center

B&D Process

  • Performed detailed market analysis, focus groups, surveys, and user interviews to determine current perception and future demand for student center facilities
  • Developed a demand-based program of activity spaces derived from the survey
  • Provided advisory services to guide a student referendum which passed with 76% in support of a quarterly fee increase to aid the projects’ finances

Project Highlights

  • A $55 million unique mix of renovation and expansion of the Price Center and Student Center facilities
  • Recipient of two design awards: An American Architecture Award from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design, and an Honor Award from the San Diego Chapter of the American Institute of Architects
