Student Success Center Programming

In 2011, Northern Kentucky University initiated a plan to transform existing vacant space in the University Center into a Student Success Center. The Success Center concept included typical campus “One-Stop Center” spaces as well as areas and resources to focus on enrolled students such as centralized advising. Brailsford & Dunlavey was retained as part of the MSA Architects design team to finalize the program. Our approach focused on planning a Center that would support the University’s strategic goals, including increasing retention and graduation rates of Northern Kentucky students. The work plan included a demographic and enrollment analysis, student focus groups, intercept interviews, benchmarking, and a national trend analysis. The final Student Success Center concept included advising, an All-Card office, a bursar, Career Services, a chapel, Financial Aid,
first-year programs, IT, meeting space, a registrar, a Student Achievement Center, support spaces, and veterans services. The approximately 20,000 GSF, $6 million Student Success Center opened in 2013.
