Student Recreation / Student Union Business Plan

In 2004 Fairmont University wanted to develop a business plan for its Student Activities Center which includes both recreation and union components. As it had repeatedly over the years, the university asked B&D to assemble this plan. We developed a business plan that drew on our deep understanding of the school through our prior union and recreation feasibility studies. We analyzed methods for generating revenue—both program-driven and facility-driven approaches—and devised a strategy that would simultaneously meet previously-determined student demand. An organizational structure and staffing plan was developed for the Student Activities Center that would enable staff to be phased in as each project stage was completed. We also calculated the risk potential, ensuring that the school understood the full range of challenges for the project, and recommended how to overcome those challenges through a risk mitigation plan that enabled the school to move the project forward with greater confidence.
