Student Recreation Center Feasibility Study, Programming Update, Financial Analysis Update, And Alternative Consultation Support

In 2007 Cal Poly Pomona was interested in a market and financial analysis that looked at the potential of building a new student recreation center. It hired B&D to do this study, and we conducted focus groups and interviews to get qualitative information which was used to develop a survey. Those results enabled us to assess the student support for the center and develop priorities to meet their demands. We also prepared a financial model that anticipated the new center would cover all of its operating costs and debt service without any subsidies and 95% of the revenue would come from a student fee. A few years later we were retained to update the study to focus on freshmen only, and the results were totally favorable with no negative reaction to increased fees. The 126,000 SF, $45.9 million Bronco Recreation and Intramural Complex opened in 2014. The facility soon thereafter achieved LEED Silver certification.
