Student Housing Master Plan

Client Opportunity

  • Intensify focus on recruitment and retention goals and enhancing students’ experience
  • Develop a student housing master plan for the Bowling Green campus
  • Evaluate facilities and programs to optimize on-campus life

B&D Process

  • Identified and prioritized the plan’s objectives to ensure they were in line with university’s ideals
  • Led focus groups and intercept interviews to create a qualitative understanding of students’ preferences for future residential improvements
  • Performed a competitive context assessment to evaluate current on-campus housing against both peer and aspirant institutions
  • Determined on-campus housing demand using proprietary Demand-Based Programming process, based on student survey responses and the university’s enrollment figures
  • Developed a comprehensive analysis to understand the financial position of the university’s housing system

Project Highlights

  • Enhancement of entry spaces, more welcoming outdoor spaces, and differentiated residential experiences featuring the academic-focused environment sought by international and honors program students
  • Re-alignment of existing housing units to provide more semi-suite choices
  • Addition of living-learning spaces
  • Investment of approximately $120 million in new student housing over 10-year period, to include creation of a Freshman Village
