Student Housing Master Plan

In 1998 the University of Missouri-Columbia engaged B&D to evaluate the extent to which the university and its environs were meeting demand for student housing. We completed an on-campus market analysis, including numerous focus groups with parents of students and prospective students, and a provided a detailed off-campus market analysis, demand projections, and a system-wide facilities analysis of all on-campus housing. We also interviewed representatives from various university departments and frequently consulted with University personnel in the Offices of Student Affairs, University Residences, Institutional Research, and Facilities and Maintenance. Our research and analyses confirmed the existence of strong support for changes to the university’s on-campus housing facilities. Furthermore, our analysis included an in-depth examination of each building’s capacity for the development of a variety of living-learning environments. Since then, the university has relied heavily on our findings while working to develop a comprehensive housing portfolio with an array of living-learning options.
