Student Housing Market Analysis

Buffalo State College officials recognized the need to cultivate its residential program to meet the demand of campus housing and encourage on-campus living, and in 2000 the college enlisted B&D’s help to provide strategic recommendations toward that goal. It was facing difficulties with proper housing options, and the students’ perception of the quality of campus life was declining. We performed a thorough preliminary assessment and market analysis that included focus groups, demographic studies, and demand-based interviews. Our conclusion was that there was a much higher demand for this housing than the college had assumed. We then developed a preliminary financial model to show the college’s ability to undertake a new housing project that would carry it for the next decade while being mindful of potential growth and market demand changes.
