Student Housing, Dining, And Recreation Market Analysis

In August of 2009, American University was operating at a 110% campus housing occupancy rate with more than 1,000 students in temporary units. The university asked B&D to help with the 2011 Campus Plan Update and our work included an analysis of existing housing, student focus groups/interviews/surveys, a competitive analysis, and a model of projected demand. The multi-year pro forma we presented as part of our work helped the university determine the feasibility of future construction and/or renovation projects. Many of the recommendations arising from our study generated both formal and informal programming opportunities that would enhance the university’s sense of community via mixed-use housing developments.
