Student Center Master Plan

In 2007 Fayetteville State University needed to assess its current Student Center relative to the demands of the campus population. The resulting master plan would provide recommendations with respect to improvements to the existing Student Center through both renovations and new construction. It would also offer strategies to bring the Center up to the standards the students wanted and into conformance with the school’s peer institutions. To complete this assignment, the university hired B&D. We conducted a detailed market analysis, a financial analysis, and collaborated with Gould Evans to develop site options, concepts, and phasing strategies. Our findings included a detailed summary of elements that would enhance the university’s student center-based offerings, including: a 24-hour computer lab; a convenience store on campus; 24-hour study lounges to provide a quiet and scholarly environment; and a coffee house/performance venue with a small stage or breakout area to promote student interaction and allow them to share their performances with an audience of their peers.
