Young Harris,

Stormwater And Landscape Master Plan Management

In 2008 B&D was retained by Young Harris College to manage the creation of a stormwater management and landscape master plan document. The plan aimed to provide consistent information to all the design teams working on the present and future development of the many facilities the college would need as it transitioned from a two- to a four-year institution. The creation of a common source of information would ensure the college efficiently phased the development and budgeting for improvements to the campus stormwater management infrastructure and the landscape and hardscape components of each project throughout the implementation of the campus facilities master plan. We assisted with selecting the civil engineering and landscape architecture firms for the project and managed the schedule, process, and eventual production of the physical master plan document. The specific tasks required for the stormwater management and landscape master plan included: mapping the existing site conditions; strategies including cost-benefit assessment for various available options and issues; phasing options that correlated with the campus development per the campus master plan; a final site plan, including erosion and sedimentation control, and operations and maintenance plans; assessing costs associated with both stormwater management and landscape plans; benchmarking the college with comparable facilities with respect to landscape design; establishment of a guidelines and standards manual for campus landscape architecture; campus landscape vision and framework as defined in the campus master plan; and the design of landscape architecture concepts for six specific project areas.
