Special Events Center Feasibility Study And Financial Analysis

In 1998 Northern Kentucky University engaged B&D to complete a market study for the development of a new special events center and subsequently to perform a detailed feasibility study and financing plan for the project. The university was going through rapid change since the community was growing faster than most in the U.S. Its athletic program was reviewing options to move to Division l, and a new sports venue was a key component to that plan. Our analysis included market research to identify a niche in which the university’s facility could realistically compete. We recommended building a center to house men’s and women’s basketball and various other events and meetings. It could also serve the smaller concert and conference markets that had been moving across the river to Cincinnati. Our study included detailed financing analyses regarding funding sources such as naming gifts and state funds. The 9,400-seat, $64 million Bank of Kentucky Center opened in 2008.
