Soccer Stadium Design/build Team Selection Support Services

In 2008 B&D was retained by the University of Missouri–Kansas City to assist with the design-build team selection for the development of a new soccer stadium. The lighted, multipurpose field not only would support intercollegiate programs and NCAA conference and regional matches, but also would expand student intramural activities by hosting commencements, concerts, and community school sporting events. To complete this assignment, our work included: assisting the university in issuing an RFQ; facilitating an evaluation session to generate a group of short-listed design-build team respondents; producing a set of RFP design-build guidelines for design-build teams which comprised general requirements and design criteria; directing a pre-proposal meeting and site visit for short-listed design-build teams; conducting interviews to determine the winning design-build team. With our assistance, the university selected a design–build team and the Durwood Soccer Stadium & Recreational Field opened in 2009. The 850-seat, $9 million complex includes a soccer field, four-lane track, locker rooms, meeting rooms, and coaches’ offices.
