Imagine Schools

School Test-Fit Analysis And Renovation Program Management

In 2008 B&D was selected by Imagine Schools—a national operator of charter schools throughout the United States—to perform a test-fit analysis for converting an urban YMCA facility into a charter school. The purpose of this analysis was to evaluate the ability of the existing facility to accommodate such a school. The proposed Imagine Schools facility would help serve the educational needs of the neighborhood as well as surrounding communities. Its site ultimately would allow for the growth of the school’s student enrollment by providing another campus. We performed a comprehensive evaluation of the proposed site. This analysis included the complete coordination of multiple disciplines including structural and mechanical systems, roofing, hazardous materials, a traffic study, academic programs, comprehensive code compliance, commercial wireless communications, and leasing agreement review. As a result, we recommended the renovation of the 34,961 gross square foot facility to accommodate 440 students. And in 2010, B&D was again retained by Imagine Schools, this time to serve as program manager, overseeing the renovation of the former YMCA site into a public charter school space.
