School Renovation Program Management

DC Scholars Public Charter School opened its doors in Washington, DC under the Scholar Academies CMP partnership in 2012, serving grades PS through 3. In 2014 B&D was selected to manage and oversee the architectural, engineering, and construction management selection and procurement process for the school’s new long-term home in the Shadd building. Once the design and construction team was selected, we were retained to serve as the program manager for the Shadd facility modernization project. Working with the design team and the school’s leadership, we developed a program of architectural requirements that would enable the school to expand into the Shadd building one grade per year until it reached its goal of serving students in grades PS through 8. Our additional responsibilities included assisting with contract negotiations and design reviews, developing the project schedule, coordinating the permitting process, providing construction administration, tracking the project budget, and procuring the various subcontracts for utilities and services required for a major renovation project.

The 72,100 square foot, $17.5 million modernization project was completed in 2016.
