RFP Response Coordination

In 2005 the RLA Revitalization Corporation, a subsidiary of National Capital Revitalization Corporation, requested proposals to develop three vacant parcels of land in the Shaw School Urban Renewal Area. On behalf of the See Forever Foundation and the Maya Angelou Public Charter School (MAPCS), B&D was hired to coordinate a proposal response to transform the lot at 8th and T Streets NW, Washington, DC, from an oft-abandoned parking lot to a state-of-the-art high school and community asset. See Forever and MAPCS had three primary reasons for increasing the size of the Shaw Campus by developing that lot: expanding opportunities and better preparing students to compete and excel at college and in the workforce; reducing overcrowding; and enhancing the community. Our effective coordination of the various team members—including the Foundation, MAPCS, PGN Architects, Capital Construction Group, and Smith Management Construction—led to the rapid development of a comprehensive, 126-page proposal. Although the Foundation and MAPCS were short-listed for the parcel, stringent land-use guidelines required MAPCS to examine better options for increasing the size of Shaw Campus.
