New Orleans Center for Creative Arts

New Orleans,

Residential And Student Life Programming

In 2009, New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA) selected B&D as part of a campus facilities master plan team led by Eskew+Dumez+Ripple. NOCCA provides high school students with in-depth artistic training in areas such as dance, media, music, film, theater, creative writing, and culinary arts. Through this master plan project, NOCCA desired to understand how its facilities could support its short-term and long-term visions. We were tasked with helping to define and analyze the campus’ physical and visual assets, with a particular focus on how to enhance residential and student life functions. Through research and analysis, we recommended a comprehensive redevelopment of social spaces that included: a 12,000 SF dining venue with capacity for 260; a 16,000 SF retail and leisure space; a 3,500 SF health program; a 37,000 SF recreation and wellness program. We also presented three residential life approaches ranging from traditional to boarding programs, and developed student housing programs for different class levels. Upon completion of the assignment, the project team won an Outstanding Planning Award from the Louisiana American Planning Association.
