Recreation Master Plan Update And Financial Analysis Update

B&D was retained in 2005 to conduct a master plan update to help Louisiana State University consider strategies for recreation improvements. The university had grown concerned about the investments it made in its recreation and sports complex and whether or not they met the student’s needs and kept the school competitive. Our scope of work included: focus groups with students, faculty, and staff to gain an understanding of their perceptions of the sports/recreation facilities; a competitive context analysis to identify the school’s position relative to its peers; a Web-based student survey to test demand for recreational/sports facilities; a site analysis; and a financial model to examine two scenarios. Our findings revealed a shortfall in space of 132,000 to 180,000 SF relative to peer schools and responding to the students’ demands. We recommended that to bring the facilities up to contemporary standards any long term plan must include a new facility and a renovation effort. We returned to campus in 2011 to develop an updated financial analysis for the university’s recreation center expansion project.
