New School Test Fit Analysis, Program Of Architectural Requirements, Program Management, And Capital Reserves Study

In 2006 the Two Rivers Public Charter School selected B&D to perform a preliminary test fit analysis of a building site to accommodate a new middle school. At the time, the school offered classes from pre-school to fifth grade and planned to expand one grade each year until it reached eighth grade. We analyzed the land use guidelines of the property, the school’s space needs, and the structural and environmental conditions of the property to determine the parameters for designing and financing a feasible project, which would consist of 15,000 SF of new construction. In 2007 we were retained again, this time as consultant to support the school’s management of the new development, which included 13 classrooms, offices, parking, a media center, a rooftop playground, and a gym. Our responsibilities were to develop architectural program requirements, help select architectural services, assist with contract negotiations and design reviews, and coordinate the permitting process. The new middle school opened in 2009. We were retained again in 2010 to develop a tool to assist the school in preparing for long-term capital needs. We prepared a model that looked out 30 years and facilitated the exploration of funding options.
