New School Feasibility Study And Program Management

In 2005 Friendship Technology Preparatory Academy was Washington, DC’s largest public charter school, with five campuses serving over 3,000 students in grades K-12. The school retained B&D’s services to perform a test fit analysis to determine the ability of a site to host a new campus. Our analysis confirmed the ability of the proposed site to host the academy’s sixth campus. We were then asked to serve as program manager for the project’s implementation process and our responsibilities included: participation in the pre-qualification and selection of a design team, construction contractor, and consultants; management of contracts; the creation and maintenance of key budgets, schedules, and communication and project variables; and detailing of design recommendations. We then helped develop construction documents and site work detailing. In the end, our studies revealed the academy would need to assume a level of risk that exceeded their acceptable levels at the time, and the project was postponed.
