Facilities Addition And Renovation Program Management

Low enrollment led the DC Public Schools to close an elementary school, but in 1998 local parents and community members stepped in and created a new school in the empty building—the Arts & Technology Academy Public Charter School. By 2005 the Academy had established itself as a highly successful pre-K through sixth grade school and hired B&D to prepare a test-fit study to determine a facility solution allowing it to expand its program to eighth grade. As a result of this study we were asked to serve as program manager for an addition and renovation of the existing school wherein we developed architectural requirements, managed architect and builder selections and contract negotiations, tracked and managed the budget, schedule and quality of the project. The amount of new construction was estimated at 39,000 SF with a $10 million project value.
