Building Hope

Washington,

Draper Elementary School And Benning Elementary School — School Renovations Program Management

In 2008 Building Hope was challenged to renovate two existing public schools into shared incubator spaces in a compressed timeframe. Such incubator space gives new charter schools a temporary infrastructure in which they can focus more exclusively on academic programs. As these schools grow and move on to bigger spaces, new start-up charter schools replace them in a continuous and mutually beneficial cycle. Building Hope engaged B&D to provide complete program management services that included hazardous materials abatement, IT system installation, access control and security, roof replacement, parking lot renovation, landscaping, and coordination of final finishes. The work at both schools was done in the course of one summer, enabling them to open in time for the start of the fall semester.
