District Of Columbia Public Schools Renovations “Blitz” Program Management

In the summer of 2007 the District of Columbia Office of Public Education Facilities Management implemented a $70 million initiative to address approximately 3,046 open work orders in 37 DC public elementary schools. The work orders consisted of a variety of issues, including: asbestos abatement, air conditioning, electrical enhancements, roofing repairs, ceiling tile replacements, plaster repair, painting, plumbing repair and upgrades, and ADA restroom enhancements. B&D and McKissack & McKissack, were selected for this project and the work entailed: evaluation of previously issued bids; scope development; coordination of purchase orders/contracts; oversight management and coordination with contractors, schools, and PTAs; weekly and monthly reporting; maintenance of project schedules and change orders; review and approval of payments; and contract close-out. All 37 schools were opened in time for the school opening in August of 2007.
