Convocation Center Needs Assessment

In 1999 Chicago State University was looking for a needs assessment for the development of a new convocation center. The university needed a study to support decisions regarding architectural requirements, operating philosophies, financing strategies, business plans, and ultimately constructing the most appropriate facility. It selected B&D to perform this work. As a component of our work, we evaluated the current facilities to determine the extent to which the right quality and quantity of indoor facilities existed to support the university’s desired functions. Our data and research produced a final recommendation that resulted in the construction of the $38 million, 7,000-seat Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center. This 140,000 SF facility accommodates athletic events, concerts, graduation ceremonies, and other school activities. It opened in the spring of 2007.
