Campus Recreation Center Programming And Strategic Operations Plan

In 1996 B&D served as sports facility consultant to Sasaki Associates, which designed and built the new Campus Recreation Center at the University of Maryland, College Park campus. Our role was to re-evaluate every aspect of the program document prepared by an architectural firm and further consult on site selection, building design, materials and system selection, construction, and procurement of FF&E. In re-evaluating the program, we revised the overall allocation of spaces, generated adjacency matrices and functional relationship diagrams, reviewed the technical specifications, and performed an analysis of the proscribed efficiency factor. We also developed an operations plan to address management systems, staffing projections, and facility management systems. The 229,000 SF, $39.5 million Eppley Recreation Center opened in 1997. It received a Facility of Merit award from Athletic Business magazine and a 2000 Outstanding Sports Facility Award from NIRSA.
