Campus Life Preliminary Assessment

Lipscomb University, having recently devoted significant resources to making general campus improvements, hired B&D in 2006 to conduct a needs assessment on the future development of student housing facilities. To initiate the study, we conducted focus groups with Lipscomb students, interviewed key campus administrators and Lipscomb’s third party construction managers / architects, toured existing campus life facilities, and visited the university’s closest institutional competitor. During the project, the university expanded our role, as we identified the need to improve campus life facilities beyond housing. Based on its findings, B&D provided a series of programming options for future renovations/improvements to not only the student housing facilities, but also recreation facilities and the campus union. Before making any recommendations, we worked closely with campus construction managers and architects to determine the feasibility of proposed renovation options. Ultimately, our efforts provided the university with a series of long-term strategic and master planning goals that will positively impact the future of campus life.
