Sandy Spring,

Campus Edge Development Preliminary Assessment And Land Use Advisory Services

B&D was hired by Sandy Spring Friends School in 2008 to provide land planning advisory services for evaluating opportunities to generate income from its surplus land, specifically to generate non-tuition-based revenue through adding facilities that would not compromise the school’s brand, mission, operational effectiveness, or campus master plan. Our approach included: interviews with the school’s senior administration to gain their perspectives; a visioning session to understand the values that drive the school; a tour of existing facilities; an understanding of regulatory restrictions; development and testing of alternate land uses; and development of financial models to evaluate probabilities. We identified several possible campus areas and development strategies that would present the least disruption to the campus activities. In 2010 we were retained again to update our findings.
