Benning Park Program Management

In 2009 the District of Columbia Department of Parks and Recreation, through the Office of Public Education Facilities Modernization, needed program management and project oversight services for the renovation of, and addition to, numerous community recreation centers, athletic fields, parks, and playgrounds. B&D was retained for these services, and the work was completed using the design-build delivery method. The Benning Park project consists of the modernization of the existing park at Benning Park Recreation Center. The project includes removing the existing playground area and installing new play equipment, a poured-in-place safety surface, fencing, re-grading/drainage, landscaping, concrete sidewalks, stairs, and re-surfacing the asphalt of the existing basketball and tennis courts. Landscape features include a community garden, rain garden, and ornamental plantings throughout the park. Site amenities include a new picnic shelter with a green roof, as well as new park furniture. The project is expected to be delivered in the summer of 2013.
