Athletics Programming

B&D, in association with Lake | Flato Architects, was engaged by Francis Parker School in 2014 to develop an outline program of spaces for a new on-campus athletic complex. Our engagement was the continuation of an ongoing initiative by the school to enhance its athletic and recreation facilities in support of its competitive athletic teams and general student population. We advised key Francis Parker stakeholders regarding best practices in independent school athletic facility development, with a particular focus on maximizing utilization from the entire campus (including faculty and staff members) and facilitating a high-quality competition environment. In addition to assembling best practice case studies, we led a strategic prioritization work session with campus leaders to understand the unique role the envisioned facility would need to play in the daily lives of Francis Parker students, faculty, coaches, and other staff. Stemming from our strategic work session, we recommended program of spaces for the new athletic complex that included over 55,000 gross square feet of indoor space that included a three-court gymnasium, strength and conditioning space, a sports medicine suite, a team room, and administrative offices. The program also called for an outdoor competition pool with spectator seating.
