Athletics And Wellness Facility Program Of Architectural Requirements And Design Support

In 2010 the Winsor School selected B&D, as part of a team led by William Rawn Associates, to develop a detailed program and provide design support services for a proposed athletics and wellness facility. The school recently had completed a strategic plan covering all facets of its future. A key part of this process consisted of a master plan that identified campus needs, preferred phasing options, and new building concepts and it sought help with programming and designing a range of projects, including a new athletics and wellness facility. We developed a program of architectural requirements that highlighted the physical, architectural, programmable, and technical requirements for each space within the proposed building. We used the following approach for completing this assignment: programming workshops and a strategic asset value analysis to provide an overview of the university’s goals for the project; development of an implementation schedule; detailed user and technical interviews to analyze how the proposed facility would affect the school community; a functional relationship analysis to convey, both diagrammatically and in matrix form, the internal functional relationships among program elements; and development of data sheets and other documentation, presenting detailed requirements of the entire building on a room-by-room basis. After delivering our program document to the school, we provided design support services. The 144,000 SF, $75 million Lubin-O’Donnell Center for the Performing Arts, Athletics and Wellness opened in 2015.
