Athletic Fields Modernization Program Management

In 2007 Events DC planned to modernize six public high school athletic fields and chose B&D to serve as program manager for this project. We managed the design/build contractor, Turner Construction, from initial design until project closeout, ensuring that the fields were delivered on schedule and on budget. The field modernizations were managed under an accelerated schedule during the summer of 2007. The upgrades included installation of synthetic turf systems, new track surfaces, and—depending on the needs of the individual school—additional lighting, spectator seating, press boxes, and locker room facilities. All fields required extensive grading and drainage work prior to the arrival of the turf installation crews. This preconstruction work occurred in June 2007, and the turf crews worked on one to two schools at a time for the remainder of the summer. Despite the compressed time schedule, we helped ensure that all the fields were delivered on time for fall high school football season.
