Athletic Facility Master Plan And Program Of Architectural Requirements

Kenyon College retained the services of B&D in 1999 to develop an athletic facility master plan. We were selected again in 2001, this time to develop a facility program for the development of a new athletic/recreation facility. Our scope of work for the latter project included concept refinement and a detailed program of architectural requirements. We were then contracted as consultants for the design phase of the project. Our recommended plan was for a facility that would serve the school’s strong athletic programs and enhance the quality of life for the campus community. We advised consolidating the athletic, recreation, and student life services in a facility located near the existing field space and gym, allowing the project to become the centerpiece of the ‘off-the-hill’ development south of the campus core. As a result, the $60 million Kenyon Athletic Center opened in 2006 and received a Facility of Merit award from Athletic Business magazine the following year.
