Groton School

Athletic Facilities Assessment, Program Of Architectural Requirements, Design Review, And FF&E

In 1995 B&D was retained by the Groton School to identify and program improvements for its athletic facilities. Our tasks included: identifying program elements; a competitive market analysis; interviews with the school’s administrators, coaches, and students; and an analysis of varsity scheduling requirements. We also conducted a workshop to ascertain the school’s long-term mission and values which helped it select a development option. We were then able to program a facility that met the standards of the school, alumni, and faculty and the community as well. The chosen option included renovation of existing facilities and construction of additional facilities that would include: a field house, ice rink, gymnasium, squash courts, training rooms, classrooms, a multi-purpose/dance room, support facilities, a natatorium, and other program spaces. We also reviewed the design and procured over $1 million in FF&E. The renovated and expanded, 150,000 SF Athletic and Recreation Center opened in 1998.
