Athletic Complex Improvements Analysis

B&D was retained by the Latin School of Chicago in 2001 to identify and program improvements to its athletic facilities. Our tasks included the identification of program elements through detailed interviews with the school’s administrators, coaches, and students, and an analysis of varsity and physical education scheduling requirements. Various facility improvement options with corresponding development and operating cost implications were derived and presented to the school’s decision-makers, who were then able to choose a development option that supported their long-term strategic goals, although they faced a significant challenge in finding a suitable building site in their downtown Chicago location. The selected program option included both extensive renovation to existing facilities and construction of additional facilities to create a new athletic complex that would offer a three-court gymnasium, weight and fitness space, classrooms, a multipurpose/dance room, support facilities, a natatorium, and other program spaces.
