Woodberry Forest School

Athletic Center Expansion Program Review And FF&E Analysis

In the summer of 1999, KCF-SHG Architects hired B&D on behalf of Woodberry Forest School to work on plans for an addition to the school’s athletic center, Dick Gymnasium. Woodberry Forest was committed to improving and expanding its existing athletic facilities, as it did not effectively meet current student and staff athletic and recre-ational activity demand, causing limits in participation, practice time, and diversity of offerings. Woodberry Forest and KCF-SHG identified the preferred building program along with a renovation and addition strategy. During the latter stages of design, KCF-SHG requested consultation and input from B&D with respect to building program, function, and specifications. Our primary focus was to specify and budget the required furniture, fixtures, and equipment for the new facility. This work was completed with the delivery of a detailed equipment purchasing guide to assist Woodberry Forest in its procurement process. The school moved forward with the development of the $3 million Glover Fitness Center. This 8,600 SF addition to Dick Gymnasium was completed in the spring of 2002.
