Gettysburg College

Athletic And Recreation Strategic Plan And Programming

In 1999 Gettysburg College needed a strategic plan for improving its athletic and recreation facilities, and wanted to be sure any new developments fit the needs of its students. B&D was retained to develop this plan and our work included: a market analysis; a peer review of 11 institutions; interviews with student leaders, administrators, faculty, and several prominent alumni; and focus groups with students, faculty, and staff. The resulting design expanded the college’s existing facility and satisfied the objective of providing improved athletics and recreation facilities that would appeal to the general campus population. As a result, the college proceeded with the expansion and the $27 million Center for Athletics, Recreation and Fitness was completed in 2009. The 55,000 square foot addition to the Bream Wright Hauser Athletic Complex earned LEED Gold certification that same year.

With more than four score cheering alumni and administrators watching, Gettysburg College last month broke ground on a $25-million athletics facility that will feature an eight-lane competition pool, a four-lane warm-up pool, and a state-of-the-art hydrotherapy spa to soothe sore muscles.
