West Long Branch,

Arena / Recreation Center Feasibility Analysis, Financial Analysis, And Economic Impact Analysis

In 1999 B&D was retained by Monmouth University to conduct a feasibility study for a proposed indoor multipurpose campus activity center that would meet the needs of athletes and other recreational users. The university’s current facility, Boylan Gym, did not adequately meet the needs of the athletic department or accommodate the growing needs of the community at large. Our study included analyses to address each aspect of the project’s feasibility. Specifically, we conducted focus groups, interviews, a review of existing conditions and documents, a comparable school facilities analysis, demographic and financial analyses, and an economic impact study. Based on our work, we recommended a renovation and expansion of Boylan Gym. As a result, the 153,000 SF, $45 million renovation was completed in 2009 and received an Education Design Showcase “Project of Distinction” award from School Planning and Management magazine.
