Arena / Conference Center Feasibility Study

In 2007 B&D was retained by the University of Missouri-Kansas City to conduct a feasibility study for the development of a market-responsive multipurpose arena and conference center. In addition to providing an on-campus home for the university’s athletic programs, the proposed arena and conference center would host a mix of cultural and entertainment events. Our feasibility study included a market analysis and a preliminary financial analysis. The market analysis portion included a comprehensive evaluation of demographic and economic indicators in Kansas City and comparable markets, a target market analysis, and an evaluation of Kansas City’s event market. The financial analysis portion included the development of a comprehensive financial model based on a consistent set of assumptions and a sensitivity analysis of several operating scenarios. Our ultimate recommendation was to develop a 5,000-seat multi-purpose arena with six luxury suites, administrative facilities, and athletic support spaces.
