Academic Master Plan

In 2003 Middlesex School—through its project manager Linbeck Corporation—engaged B&D to examine the school’s physical plant as a whole and benchmark it against national comparable institutions. The focus of this master plan was to consolidate and update work we previously completed, including a Residential Master Plan (1996), Athletic Master Plan (2000), and Science and Math Master Plan (2000), and to perform a rigorous review and analysis of the school’s academic and administrative needs. The goal was to develop a short-term and long-term master plan that would provide direction for new campus facility developments and renovations to support the student population and the school’s vision. Our work included analysis of existing facilities, review of previous documentation, review and analysis of facilities at comparable schools, schedule and classroom utilization analysis, development of project objectives, concept development, and phasing scenarios. Throughout the assignment we worked intensively with the Academic Planning Committee and coordinated with school personnel involved in curriculum, scheduling, enrollment, admissions, staffing, and maintenance, particularly during the research and assessment portions of the project.
